Fairbanks-Morse 2 hp Jack of all Trades

I bought this engine at an auction in Conrad, Mt. about 10 years ago, that Lauren, Richard and I went to. Nice auction.

  1. That's a beautiful engine, Dad! What did it look like before your restored it?

  2. Beautifully redone ... what would an engine like this be used for?

  3. What a great job on the restoration! Linda shared lots of love about you on her blog, so I thought I would take a peek to remind me of my married days. I haven't been around the shows or clubs since '01, but I still know a good-looking engine when I see one. I know lots of people in CO that would give an arm and a leg for one of these bad boys!

I remember all to well trying to clean all of the parts, finding the right magnetos, making parts on the lathe, boring out the shafts and more! The first engine we worked on was an old Economy made by Sears & Roebuck. That one cost us well over $1,000 to restore, but the $50,000 that we had to spend after that was where it started to get expensive! Had to have a 30 x 60 barn built to store & work on the engines & tractors, had to have all of the equipment to make the parts since we couldn't buy most of them anymore, had to have all the air equipment to work on and paint with, had to have a truck and a trailer to haul all of the stuff to shows and gatherings, of course we had to go to auctions all over the country for our vacations, and of course we had to buy all of the special tools, oil cans, decals, belt buckles, club memberships, special books and manuals, white mountain ice cream makers to make ice cream with our Maytag engines and so much more! I can see that you have a great start in this fascinating hobby!

    1. Hello Lee, I was reading some of the comments on my blog, and see where you made some nice comments on the FBM T engine. I'm not sure if I answered you, so i wanted you to know that I did read post. I hope your health is much better now and maybe you got back in the old engine business. At the young age of 83 I'm am still looking and buying old one lunger engines. I hope you get this message, I know it's been a long time. Thanks again for your post. John Ledbetter 2enginejohn
